Course Outline
The programme adopts an open approach to integrating the myriad of contemporary energy psychologies into psychotherapy. New understandings about the nervous system, advances in neurobiology and the subtle energies support the view, that when we work with trauma as part of relational talking therapy, the body is key. In energy psychotherapy we refer to this synergy as working with bodymindenergy. The gentle methods facilitate healing within a safe therapeutic relationship, releasing the stress of emotional and energetic residues of trauma held at a deep bodily level in the cellular memory.Read More
The work invites a collaborative approach which facilitates the client’s own healing process using empowering self-applied energy methods to help the client manage triggering, emotional self-regulation and calm the nervous system. Energy psychotherapy works deeply, helping to address a wide range of conditions including PTSD, patterns of transgenerational, attachment, in-utero, preverbal, developmental and complex trauma. We find that the work reprogrammes the mind-body-energy system in life-affirming ways and preliminary evidence for clinical effectiveness treating PTSD with EFT, including with US war veterans, has shown good outcomes. EFT is mentioned in the updated NICE guidance on PTSD.
This clinical training in Energy Psychotherapy offers a generic foundation in the principles of working with the body’s subtle energy systems, using meridians, chakras and intention. In addition to the taught content, this is a clinical skills-based training, where participants learn incrementally and experientially throughout the year. There are plenty of opportunities for clinical practice, consisting of work in pairs and trios with assistance from trainers. In these sessions, course attendees work on their own personal issues and triggers using energy psychotherapy methods. In this way the course provides a platform from which people build as they learn. Consolidation of working with these methods occurs through personal study and integrating the work in their therapy practices, assisted via the monthly small supervision groups (10 throughout the year), where course participants present brief case presentations for reflection and discussion which aids learning and integration.

Learning Objectives
We intend that by the end of this year-long course, participants will have acquired competence in clinical work through:
An understanding of the history, origins and development of energy psychology techniques (including research) and their integration into psychotherapy.
An understanding of and ability to integrate work with the subtle energy systems of meridians, chakras and other components of the human energy system within the context of therapeutic relationship.
Competence in carrying out energy psychotherapy sessions – using the skills of energy testing, correcting imbalances and energy blockages, and identifying the core issue for therapeutic work, and applying energy methods to that focus.
Skills in working with the synergy of language, energy and intention.
The capacity to reflect on and integrate energy methods at deeper levels with an awareness of safety, ethics, formulations, understanding traumatic origins and planning the work. This will be demonstrat4ed by writing short clinical presentations of cases for discussion in supervision.

Module 1 - Days 1 & 2
Saturday 13 & Sunday 14 January 2024 An overview of ‘subtle energies’ including meridians and energy centres (chakras) learning basic acupoint tapping sequences
The first weekend introduces the subtle energy systems. Practitioners will be taught how to balance the body’s energy system including correcting energetic disorganisation, which provide useful tools for emotional regulation. There will be an introduction to acupoint tapping and the meridian points as well as clearing energetic blockages (‘psycho-energetic reversals’). We will also explore establishing energetic boundaries, how to clear the energy field and working in a heart-centred state of ‘presence’ and intention. We also address self-care for practitioners.
Module 2 - Day 3
Saturday 10 February 2024 A comprehensive overview and history of energy psychotherapy
The history includes a unique integration of Energy Psychology methods within psychotherapy, which is a feature specific to the development of this work in the UK. We will look at how we introduce and integrate energy work with clients, both online and in person. We will build on acupoint tapping teaching to include specific methods which help us address the roots and origins of trauma. We also teach a variety of methods of kinesiology/’energy testing’, which access the client’s unique energy system and helps guide the work safely.
Module 3 - Day 4
Saturday 23 March 2024 Bringing Mind and Body Together Part 1
Practising to integrate the methods we have learned so far, we further bring mind and body together by exploring the nature of Thoughtfields, PTSD, the nervous system and how to manage triggering using simple experiential methods. Clearing trauma helps to strengthen ego beneficially and create a healthy sense of self and stronger boundaries. We teach more on energy testing and entrainment, including learning how to check that someone’s energy system is correctly balanced. There is an introduction to the Chakras /Energy Centres and their synthesis with neurobiology and a focus on understanding psychological dysfunction through the lens of trauma.
Module 4 - Day 5
Saturday 20 April 2024 Research, History, Assessment, Phrase writing and exploring Deeper Traumatic Roots
Students will be introduced to the research of energy psychology, which shows a highly effective evidence base. We will unpack trauma, its layers and deepest roots, including transgenerational and transpersonal patterns, linking patterns between past and present. The importance of thorough assessment is explored, and the co-creation of phrase writing with the client for formulating clinical issues, using the Thought field. We also offer an introduction to Phil Mollon’s Blue Diamond Chakra clearing. We emphasise at all points, the client’s natural healing process. following their own free association and ‘energetic charge’ as it arises.
Module 5 - Day 6
Saturday 18 May 2024 Ethics – the heart and shadow of energy psychotherapy; and Core Beliefs and Intention
After an exploration of ethics, we focus on working with vibration, resonance, and the creative power of the mind. Mindfulness facilitates the power of conscious choice and how we choose to perceive our reality. Emotion is ‘energy in motion’ – a body- to -mind link – as is the use of language and the power of the word. The role of thought processes, schemas and transforming neural pathways through clearing conscious and unconscious limiting core beliefs will be explored as a vehicle for working with energy. By connecting to the heart and soul through the power of Intention we facilitate the deepest healing.
Module 6 - Day 7
Saturday 15 June 2024 Bringing Body and Mind Together Part 2 – Sympathetic, Parasympathetic and Polyvagal Theory, and various aspects of P.T.S.D and the nervous system
This module explores working with psyche and soma to integrate and work towards wholeness. The course explores the conceptualisation and treatment of somatisation and psycho-somatic conditions. We can work safely with fragmented states, parts and archetypal energies by co-creating Healing Circles as a means of integration, resourcing, grounding, and ego strengthening. We continue to work with gentle ways to help with triggering and deeper experiential work continues to explore the Blue Diamond chakra clearing
Module 7 - Day 8
Saturday 6 July 2022 Working with early attachment and pre-verbal trauma
This module focuses on attachment theory and its usefulness in treating relational trauma, including very early pre-verbal and in utero trauma. The importance of this early developmental work is emphasised and the interpersonal therapeutic relationship with its capacity to regulate mood and affect. In addition, we identify how pre-verbal trauma and its related unconscious core beliefs creates life-defining ‘blueprints’ for life, and ways that we can clear such deep neural pathways to creative positive outcomes. Working with deeper roots enables us to clear layers of trauma.
Module 8 - Day 9
Saturday 14 September Complex trauma, PTSD, dissociation, and “deeper reversals”
This day prioritises how to work safely with complex trauma and PTSD, using energy psychotherapy methods. There is an emphasis on stabilisation, grounding and embodiment, and work with ‘parts’ and ‘fragments’ to facilitate ego strengthening and integration. This module explores aspects of disconnection, dissociation, ‘alters’ and working with frozen states. We look more deeply at reversals, ‘massive reversals’ and how to work non- judgmentally with ‘shadow’ energies using Healing Circles to facilitate integration of the psyche and its contents, and working with imagery when there are no words.
Module 9 - Day 10
Saturday 19 October 2024 Review and Consolidation
This day provides an opportunity to consolidate your learning to integrate what has been learned so far and deepen the experiential practice and learning. We will go through an overview of the course methods and highlight common dilemmas and ‘trouble shooting’, using case illustrations. There will be space to revise and ask questions, and plenty of time to spend practising energy psychotherapy in pairs and trios.
Module 10 - Days 11 & 12
Saturday 23 & Sunday 24 November 2024 An Introduction to Phil Mollon’s Psychoanalytic Energy Psychotherapy (PEP)
On the final weekend we explore Phil Mollon’s depth approach for identifying optimum sequences for finding the energetic encoding for states of distress using acupoint tapping. We will also deepen our understanding about the roots and origins of ‘Reversals’ and how we can use this as a central focus in the work. There will be discussions about next steps and how people wish to take the work forward.
Admissions Criteria
The starting point of this clinical training is that all clinicians are required to have core clinical competence in therapeutic and relational skills. All participants must therefore be fully qualified and professionally accredited as a counsellor, psychotherapist, clinical psychologist or psychiatrist according to the regulations of their particular country. Having this pre-requisite level of training assumes that course participants have an understanding of the basic tenets of establishing safety and containment in therapy in order to provide a secure grounded base for working with energy. The admission criteria for this post-qualifications clinical training are based on the UK’s professional qualifications which are recognised by one of the following regulatory bodies – BACP, HCPC, UKCP, BCP or equivalent. As this is an international training, registering bodies from different countries will have their own guidelines. Essential Therapy Training will ensure when registering international students for the course, that a comparable clinical equivalence in trainings qualifications is met. Course participants must:
Have undertaken a substantial period of personal therapy.
Be qualified and registered /accredited by and practising according to the professional requirements and code of conduct of their regulatory body. For those from the UK, this means: a qualified accredited psychotherapist who is REGISTERED with the UKCP, a qualified ACCREDITED BACP member (being registered with the BACP is not sufficient), a qualified psychotherapist with current accreditation by BCP (British Psychoanalytic Council), a qualified clinical or counselling psychologist registered with HCPC or a qualified psychiatrist.
Have professional indemnity insurance that would cover working with energy therapy methods
Sign and return the personal clinical contract for ETT’s Energy Psychotherapy – Post Qualification Clinical Training to ensure you are fully aware of the nature of the course and agree to abide by its guidelines.
It is strongly recommended and encouraged that people have personal experience of energy psychotherapy for themselves for a period of time before or during the course. This provides an invaluable enhancement to learning, and those who do so find integration of this work much easier (A list of energy psychotherapists is available on request when you sign up for the course). ADDITIONAL POINTS CONCERNING ADMISSIONS CRITERIA This training is for therapeutic work with adults and we do not provide specific training for working with children. However, it is possible for child therapists to undertake the course as long as they have adult clients to work in order to learn the skills and write their dissertation. This course does not offer supervision for work with children. Psychologists who do not have a clinical training do not meet the admissions criteria to undertake this course. Social workers in the UK are not eligible as they lack a clinical training. However clinical social workers trained in USA/Canada are likely to be eligible. People who are trained in other energy modalities such as: Reiki, acupuncture or homoeopathy, or have simply done an EFT training, or are a Coach but do not have the necessary separate clinical mental health training do not meet the criteria for this course.
