Client motivation is key to the success of psychotherapy. Dr. Bernstein bases his approach on the concepts and tools developed by motivational interviewing, solution-focused therapy, and Prochaska’s “stages of change” model. Packed with case examples; video and film demonstrations; discussion and practice, the workshop is engaging, informative, and immediately useful to clinicians at any skill level.
This workshop translates the idea of “strength-based treatment” into concrete, easily digestible concepts and skills. You will learn how to engage and activate clients to make change, whether they are new to therapy or “stuck” in treatment.

About the Speaker
Seth Bernstein, Ph.D. is a practicing clinical psychologist who has been leading professional workshops since 1990. Originally trained as a psychoanalytic therapist, his practice has diversified to include a wide variety of effective, evidence-based techniques. His approach to client motivation is based on the concepts and tools developed by motivational interviewing, solution-focused therapy, and Prochaska’s “stages of change” model. It complements virtually any clinical treatment modality (CBT, DBT, family systems, etc.)
Dr. Bernstein has provided his trainings across the U.S. to therapists working in private practice, schools, the military, public and private health agencies, schools and universities, hospitals, etc.
Over the past 30 years, Dr. Bernstein has written many articles and one book related to the subject of psychotherapy. Now, his passion is teaching: passing on to the next generation of therapists his experience in motivating clients to achieve sustainable change.
