TRAINING information

This online training is streaming live on the 12th September 2022.

The digital recording will be released to all participants on the 14th September. The recording and associated resources will then be accessible through your Essential Therapy Training account for 365 days.

Most clinical approaches conceptualize and approach anxiety as a disorder, which inadvertently creates barriers to delivery of evidence-based care. While symptoms of anxiety are generally unwanted and uncomfortable, this facet of human experience can be (and often is) a catalyst to thriving. Anxiety can provide opportunities to enhance our relationships with ourselves and others, while increasing resilience to face adversity. Specifically, anxiety can increase our self-awareness, self-compassion, and self-acceptance; enable us to embrace our vulnerability and need for close relationships; and help us to accept uncertainty and the limits of our control. This workshop will present how cognitive-behavioral and emotionally focused therapeutic techniques can be framed through the lens of “thriving with anxiety” to disseminate effective therapeutic techniques within a positive psychology framework.

Learning Objectives

You will learn:

  • How the symptoms of anxiety map onto human strengths
  • How to describe the “anxiety spiral” and, conversely, a “positive spiral”
  • How anxiety can enhance relationships with ourselves, and others
  • How to frame evidence-based concepts from Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy using concepts from positive psychology
