In this 3-hour work, Silva will present how trauma effects sexual functioning. Although some clients may come to therapy because they experience sexual problems as a result of trauma, often, they come to therapy because they are disturbed by past trauma but feel reluctant to discuss the impact that it has on their sex lives. This workshop will equip therapists to talk about sex in the consulting room, and also to work with sexual problems that arise from trauma.

Silva will discuss how trauma can have an impact on people’s sex lives, and focusing on particular types of trauma that most often will affect people’s sex lives such as rape, sexual abuse in childhood, some invasive surgery, accidents on the genital areas, childbirth and sexual betrayal.
