This e-learning course which is divided into four modules, is designed to provide mental health professionals with an overview of trauma and Trauma Informed Practice that will enable practitioners to become trauma wise practitioners.
It will explore the core elements of interpersonal trauma and its neurobiological impact alongside the long term psychological and relational effects. In addition, it will introduce the fundamental principles of the Power Threat Meaning Framework and Trauma Informed Practice, and how to use a Phased Oriented Approach to Trauma and Recovery which can be incorporated or used as a scaffold for the practitioner’s preferred modality. It will look at how this can facilitate pacing the processing of the trauma through affect regulation, grounding skills, somatic safety, psychoeducation, and how to build the core skills and competencies to work with trauma. The importance of the therapeutic relationship will be assessed and how it can be used to build relationship skills and reclaim relational worth. It will also identify how working with trauma impacts on practitioners and how this can be mitigated through practitioner self-care.
The emphasis throughout is on familiarisation with a range of techniques, including experiential ones, to aid recovery and healing from trauma and how post traumatic growth enables survivors to reconnect to self, others, and reclaim their lives.
