After exploring the physiology and neuroscience of mindfulness and compassion, we will turn to utilizing these practices to hone our own clinical skills and compassionate presence. This includes understanding the interpersonal neurobiology of emotions, the role of self-regulation and co-regulation in attachment and therapy. From there we will discuss and practice techniques to use directly with clients, and cover ways to encourage mindfulness outside of the clinical hour. A final exploration of self-compassion practices will help both ourselves and our clients quiet our inner critic and respond more effectively to our own needs. Lastly, we strategize ways to overcome resistance and other challenges to integrating mindfulness into daily life.
The workshop will explore ways to tailor mindfulness to the client, rather than taking a one-size fits all approach. That includes adapting to a range of presenting issues, including depression, anxiety, ADHD, executive function challenges, addiction, impulse control difficulties, trauma and stress. Different practices will engage different clients through arts, movement, technology and more, for all manner of attention spans and lifestyle limitations.
